HCS SCS SB 957 -- SPECIAL LICENSE PLATES
SPONSOR: Loudon (Reid)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Motor Vehicle and Traffic Regulations by a vote of 8 to 0.
This substitute allows those who are serving or who have served
in operations Enduring Freedom or Noble Eagle to obtain a special
license plate denoting that fact after paying a $15 fee in
addition to the regular registration fees.
The substitute also revises the language regarding the
registration of historic motor vehicles. Any person wishing to
register a plate which is over 25 years old and is consistent
with the year of manufacture of the motor vehicle may register
the plate as a historic vehicle plate. The plate must not
contain a configuration of letters or numbers already issued to
another vehicle owner. The owner of the historic vehicle must
keep the certificate of registration in the vehicle at all times.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that people serving in operations
Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle deserve these special plates in
recognition for their fight for our freedom. The substitute will
clear up language allowing the use of historic license plates.
Testifying for the bill were Senator Loudon; Gerald Perschbacher;
and Horseless Carriage Club of Missouri.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
